Great tasting dim sum. My parents buy from here. Now, I do too. They have messed up a few times, forgetting food, if you have a large order. So open up everything to double check.

I was visiting LA and wanted to bring some dim sum back to SD (better quality and pricing). I found Lucky 1 on Yelp. The service was bad as expected. Server claimed the credit card machine was done, but I feel they are lying and want to make people pay in cash. Luckily I had $100 on me since I ordered a lot of dim sum to share with the family. The har gow and shumai were huge and pretty tasty. I really liked the sticky rice wrap and you get 2 decent sized ones per order. Almost everything was a "B" class so $4.89 per serving. Price was fair for portion size. The custard buns were just OK, but the baked creamy egg yolk bun was delicious. We went late afternoon on a Sunday and it seemed like everything was available. Restaurant is in a strip mall, so plenty of small, bad parking spaces. Would return again for inexpensive to go dim sum, but bring cash and don't trust the accept credit card sign!

Lucky 1 is one of my favorite places for dim sum. This review is long overdue as I come here at least once a quarter and have been coming here for several years now. It is located in a plaza with various food spots and stores, so parking can be tough, especially during meal rush hours. The staff are super nice and service is usually quick, though I have seen lines during weekend breakfast hours. There is a restaurant space attached, but since COVID, Lucky 1 has been keeping to a takeout/to-go model, making it more of a no-frills type place. The prices of the dim sum here are a little higher than others, but for the quality and the size (for example, the siu mai are larger here than other places), they're worth it. They have all the classic dim sum options as well as some unique ones such as a durian bun, sweet piggy bun, and pork belly bun. So far, I haven't tried anything from here that I didn't like or wouldn't recommend. They also have tea, frozen items, and cookies/other pastries, but I haven't tried any of these yet. For this visit, my mom and I ordered a variety of items to bring home for the family. Here's what we got, and pictures are attached. Note that the quantities in the pictures don't all match what you actually get in one order. We were hungry, started eating, and forgot that the camera eats first. -Siu Mai (Pork and Shrimp Dumpling) -Liu Sha Bao (Lava Egg Yolk Bun) -Jin Dui (Sesame Ball) -Durian Bao -Dan Tat (Egg Tart) -Bak Tong Gao (White Sugar Sponge Cake) -Char Siu Bao (BBQ Pork Bun) -Shrimp Cheung Fun (Shrimp Rice Roll) -Beef Cheung Fun (Beef Rice Roll) -Feng Zhao (Chicken Feet) -Nai Wong Bao (Custard Bun) Overall, highly recommend Lucky 1 for dim sum. It's an excellent spot to pick up a variety of dim sum for any meal or craving. The staff are really nice and quick. 5/5 all around and will definitely be back.
